A Fruitful Christian - October 13, 2024: full transcript and answers

▶ 0:07 Good morning we’re going to be talking about being a fruitful Christian this morning and we’ve been talking about. Um what is a Christian how we can uh know that we are Christians looking at Jesus Christ looking at the father in heaven looking at the church in antioch and I we bring up the church in antioch because it was the first place where uh believers of the way were called. Christians and a Christian models their behavior after uh the Christian mean you know e I aan is talking about like the the person that’s before that again steph if you can find that tape that would be great but today we’re going to be talking about a a fruitful Christian we’re going to be talking about the remnant in the Bible how it’s used in the scriptures what they do and uh a few other.

▶ 1:07 Things last week we shared the example about how uh we are to be made a new creation it says therefore if any man is in Christ he is a new creation and old things have passed away behold all things have become new God wants to make us new creatures he wants us to be become new people uh our minds need to be changed what’s inside of us our spirit our emotions everything about us he wants to transform it amen and even though many Christians may not be evolving into the new creature remember America is only 350 million or or around that and it’s not you know it’s not the majority of the world okay in other countries there are people that are seeking God that want to be made into new.

You 63% of Americans of those 350 million believe in Jesus Christ but only 22% attend services weekly in the church so uh 63% of 350 million you know 200 million and then 22% of that 200 million go to his house it’s important for us to understand that and I’ve shown you in lessons in the past how important it is to be in God’s house it’s very important for us to. Join in what God is doing and I actually uh with latest technology you can get the breakdown by state and I thought that was very interesting california is 28% rhode island is 17% so we’re doing better than rhode island right and utah is 50% I was like what wow that’s that’s amazing and the Bible bel at the southern states is all 40% so 40% of the people that believe in Christ are attending church remember Jesus said I will build my church and the gates of hell shall not prevail it’s important for us to be involved in what he is doing and what he is.

▶ 3:18 Building if we have a problem with the church let’s go in and be change for his church for his house it doesn’t matter what church or denomination that people are are in when you decide to let God train you up and bring you to a place where you treat people right and you treat God right you’re on the right track and where you go to church doesn’t define that it’s Christ that defines you it’s Christ that has the impact and the change in your life and a new creature and can a new creature Christian can be in any church I have the catholic church here of course that’s the pope united methodist evangelical first baptist there’s catholics that are letting God change them and I’m not going to speak for the pope I’m not going to speak for everybody else but there’s all kinds of people that believe in Christ that are.

▶ 4:20 Uh where’s Miss Woods. At there’s Christians in all types of denominations that are letting go God make them a new creation. Amen Revelations 12: 17 it says the dragon made war with the remnant of the seed who keep the commandments of God and they have the testimony of Jesus Christ so here we’re talking about the remnant the people that are uh preserved they won’t bow their knee to bail they’re they’re dedicated they’re devoted to God and to Christ and how their behavior is and one of the first things it says is they keep the commandments of God and they have the testimony of Jesus.

▶ 5:18 Christ 1 Peter 5:8 it says the Devil prowls around like a roaring lion and lying s seeking whom he may devour so we know there’s a war going on it says in Ephesians chapter 6 our struggles is not against flesh and blood but against principalities and powers of darkness there is an opposition uh trying to keep you from be being made a new creature there is an opposition to the church again Jesus says it he said the gates of hell shall not prevail they’re trying to prevail there is opposition but they’re not going to prevail uh but it depends right if you’re not in the place that he’s shaping and changing. You’re disconnected. Amen Exodus chapter 1413 do not be afraid stand firm and you will see the deliverance of the Lord you will the Lord will bring you today the Lord will fight for you you only need to be still uh the point is in that scripture the Lord will fight for you did you know that God is on your side and that God is fighting for you too don’t be afraid 2 Kings 6:16 those who are with us are what more let’s say that again more than those who are with them remember when the demons and the Devil were cast down what was their number does anybody.

▶ 6:46 Remember oneir that’s right who said that. Oneir is that the majority. No and you know even if they were the majority who is the majority God Jesus that’s right and when he says something it happens and it’s a joke to think that they have any power against God. Okay he created all these things he created the angels he created all these things second uh he looked and saw the hills were full of horses and chariots of fire all around.

▶ 7:26 Elisha this is when the army came out against Elisha and Gehazi his servant was afraid and he was shaken in his shoes and Elisha says what do you you know don’t be afraid and he prayed that God would open his eyes and and God opened gazi’s eyes and he saw the horses and chariots of fire I’m sorry it may not be gesa just Elisha’s servant but el the servant’s eyes were open to see that God was on their side that God was fighting for them and that’s what these songs this morning we had were saying that God is fighting for you when you’re fighting with Jesus and you’re in his in his kingdom in his uh battleground and you’re fighting with him you’re going to be victorious because he’s the captain of the host he’s powerful amen he’s the mighty one of Israel when he fights for us we win.

▶ 8:29 And so before moving on we want to recognize that even though the kingdom of darkness may be able to uh influence people to harm us and oppose us it can also try to influence us uh to do wrong and also as we know job you know God does limit uh Satan to do harm even though all that comes all that opposition is there God is fighting overtime for us to be be made a new creation and when God is fighting overtime for us you know he’s working double hard than the kingdom of darkness okay you want to get into that work that he’s doing you want to get connected to that power that he is in amen it’s very important for.

▶ 9:24 Us Hebrews 12:22 you have come to mount Zion as I quoted earlier this morning to the city of the living God the heavenly Jerusalem yes when we come together when we gather it says where two or three are gathered in his name there he is in our midst and I tell you I’ve been in church almost all of my life and it’s true when you are willing to humble yourself and come in and gather he’s there he’s there and you may not I I didn’t always feel him but I felt him a lot. And this morning I felt them you know I feel them a lot more these. Days but you’ve got to be pursuing God you got to come in pursuing him and doing exercising the things he says to do you have come to thousands upon thousands of angels in joyful assembly they are.

▶ 10:19 Smiling the angels are all smiling and we come in and we’re like. But they’re happy and they’re sitting on the seline they like what’s wrong with this guy we’re in the house of God did did they they not walk into the right place did they get in the wrong did they mean to go to the store down the street no they came to church what are they sat. About. Amen we have to be willing to receive the power that God has and to activate the growth of God in our lives.

▶ 11:13 If you guys have ever seen this movie it’s called the matrix and uh in the real world there there’s this real world where it’s ugly it’s dingy they’re in some ship and you know I don’t want to get into all that but when they wanted to learn something in the fake world all they had to do was install a program and all of a sudden they knew how to do it so the guy he he knew how to fight once they installed the program and he was like the best karate man in the world all like that right and that’s how we want to be in God but it doesn’t work like that it doesn’t work like you can’t just come to God and be like okay make me a master right it doesn’t work like that that’s that’s movie stuff that’s hollywood now there’s some things that can change quickly but not a lot of things if you want to become skilled and powerful and if you want to become a a a soldier for the kingdom of God and for Christ it’s going to take some training and some discipline amen it’s going to take you learning the word first of all it’s going to take you praying it’s going to take you finding answers in the scriptures it’s going to take you getting a new heart letting God change.

▶ 12:37 You it doesn’t come by all of the sudden doesn’t come by accident. Now when it says out of the mouth of babies and sucklings I’ve have ordained praise to steal the enemy and the avenger see when you praise when we use our opportunity in the morning and when we come in on Sunday and tomorrow you have an opportunity when you’re home to praise God lift up his name when you do that you are immediately attacking the kingdom of darkness in America right now there’s everybody everybody’s talking about mental health everybody’s talking about depressions being sad they’re talking about all these things anxiety. Did they there is some medicine in praising and lifting up the name of Jesus and we refuse to use. It I’m telling you it can put a smile on your your face it can change how you see.

▶ 13:36 Things anyway all that to say that uh it doesn’t happen it’s not like popcorn doesn’t happen in in 5 minutes it happens over time because you are putting in the discipline and the effort the remnant again who keeps the commandments of God Romans chapter. 6:14 Paul writes or or the writer of Romans says because you are not under law but under grace and what is he saying which laws are we not under Hebrews chap 10:1 here he says the law again and he’s just saying the law the law is only a shadow of the good things that are coming not the realities. Themselves and that is our key point right here when he says not the realities when there is a law that has to do with reality it may be a moral practical law that you need to follow when it’s talking about things that you know are types as he says types and shadows okay if you look at this cross I have this image up here for a reason um you can see the shadow you guys see that.

▶ 14:54 Shadow can you guys see that I can see that can you see it from back there you you see the shadow right the shadow if you follow the shadow where does it take. You it takes you to the cross right now I know this is a picture but let me see if I stand here I can’t see my shadow I’m sorry I can’t help you normally when you stand outside you’re going to see that you cast a shadow if you follow that shadow it will take you to the real person and so the sacrifices of the lambs of the goats of the battle were a shadow pointing to the real thing which is who Jesus Christ and his death on the cross for the sin of the world amen and there’s many shadow laws and in the Bible.

▶ 15:48 That are pointing to a real thing and they’re not the real thing themselves so that’s what Paul is saying here we’re not under those laws okay we didn’t come in and start sacrifice and then get the the the lamb out here and the goat and start sacrificing it no we don’t do that anymore why because it’s been fulfilled in who Jesus Christ amen I didn’t come out with the incense and start lighting it and saying oh shba lba no we don’t do that because the praise and the prayers are our what.

▶ 16:26 Incense Exodus 22:1 talks about if you steal an ox or a sheep uh and you slaughter it and you it says that you’re required to repay five oxen for each ox and stolen four sheep for each sheep stolen it’s what it’s saying is you have to give it back and not only do you have to give it back you have to give it back with interest you shouldn’t have done that and because you did that you have to pay uh a price uh the thief was caught if the thief was caught with a stolen animal in their possession they were required to pay back double so uh they were required to pay back what they stole and then uh another one on top of that so we see here a practical law and if these were implemented today it would discourage a lot of theft but we don’t have these laws in America today and theft is happening all over.

▶ 17:29 Uh at the top this is Target I don’t know if you guys have seen these videos where they just go in and they just start stealing stuff it’s not good it’s not right and see America has tried to change laws to make this stuff okay and it’s never been okay in God’s eyes it does not. Matter what somebody writes in the government it doesn’t overwrite truth. It doesn’t overwrite God’s law it doesn’t overwrite the ten. Commandments and we should not be voting for these things that break the ten commandments see I’m saying to my neighbor I’m saying to the people that break that stuff that it’s okay and they’re going to keep doing it and keep breaking the ten commandments and it’s going to destroy their life.

They have to leave their cars with their back open in certain cities because they’ll just come up and they’ll break the window and take what’s in it because nobody will hold them accountable happened to my brother my brother was up in San Francisco he had a bag in there they got a baby he’s got his wife and they just break the window and steal the bag because no one will hold him accountable it’s not right see should we follow this law yeah it’s a good law some kind of restitution may not maybe not Bible restitution but let’s follow some restitution if you steal it you got to pay it back and you got to pay back with the fine come on let’s come on.

▶ 19:11 Folks. Kidnapping particularly for the purpose of selling for the the victim into slavery was considered a serious crime punishable by death what was happening in uh the slavery days in America in the Bible was not supposed to happen the Bible does not promote sl slavery the kidnapping and selling of people is not right they would kidnap them in africa and sell them in slave ships and the world would purchase them like they were inferior property and that is not right and you cannot do that according to the what the law so are we under these laws or are we not under these laws you know you can say oh I’m not under law I’m under grace I don’t have to follow that law anymore anyway moving on the remnant keep the commandments look at this guy he’s just excited and jazzed about life amen Hebrews chapter 10: 24 let us consider one another to provoke unto love and to good.

▶ 20:18 Works you know that word provoke normally we not provoking people to love we’re provoking people to. What yeah that’s right you know when we curse at each other we curse to somebody we don’t like we’re trying to provoke them to what you want to start something you want to fight see we’re good at that but we haven’t learned how to provoke one another to what love and the good works and when we come into God’s house we want to provoke uh you know we want to encourage one another to love the good works amen.

▶ 21:01 If you’re a Christian that is provoking someone to anger and you’re provoking and you’re you’re trying to instigate something that is not scriptural that is not right okay that is not how the remnant behaves that is not they that’s not keeping God’s commandments Romans 13:10 again the writer of Romans New Testament he’s quoting the ten commandments and he says after talking about the ones that affect uh what is uh murder false witness honoring father and mother you know he’s quoting these in that in that section there and then he says love does no harm to a neighbor and love is the fulfillment of the law so here it says the fulfillment of the law it implies hey yes we still need to do something to fulfill the law so we don’t just throw out the law okay I’m just trying to show you the scriptures are are are encouraging us to follow God’s law and the way that we can do that if you never kn know what the law is love is the fulfillment of that doing no harm people in other nations that have never read the Bible don’t have a Bible can’t read all the Bible if they do no harm to their neighbor they are what they are loving and love is that fulfillment.

▶ 22:30 I have so many notes. Here and so does theft does lying bearing false witness does sexual immorality murder and dishonoring your parents does that hurt your family and your community well who said it yes oh right we can admit that yes that’s good you’re right it hurts uh stores are closing in certain cities due to. Theft right you guys know about this it’s hurting the community now people can’t go to walmart because it’s closed down they can’t go to Target because it closed down it’s hurting.

▶ 23:32 People are abusing the legal system and taking people to. Court. Uh and they will take people to court they’ll take businesses to court because they know that the insurance will just pay them the premium because the insurance company doesn’t want to go to court they’ll just say here how much do you want here just take the money let’s settle and so people will abuse that and get money no matter even. If people are innocent that’s not right that’s false witness amen and if you do that you’re not a remnant you’re not keeping God’s. Commandments and it says in the Scriptures he that loveth God knows God and he that doesn’t know God and does not love does not know God and so it’s important to understand that when we don’t love people and we don’t love God we don’t know God when we act in these ways and we break his commandments we are acting in a way that we don’t know God and if you don’t know.

▶ 24:45 God he’s going to stand on that day and say I never what knew you I don’t want him saying that about me you want him saying that about you no so what we’ve got to love. Amen let’s see here I came across this and I wanted to share this girl. Here talking about. Murder hold on I got to restarted got all these. Popups goodness gracious. Okay all. Right all.

▶ 25:41 Right there’s three settings I have to change here can you believe. This this might be crazy because I know she’s not going to survive anyways but I only have so much time left with her why should I cut it. She’s safe in my wom and at this point I’ve been following a million pro-life organizations on instagram I’ve seen what an abortion looks like and I said I don’t think I could bear to have her ripped piece by piece out of my womb and sure in the life that’s already so short take her away from a spot where God has placed her in my in my hands in my room where she’s safe and she’s warm and she only knows love and doesn’t know pain why would I give her such a painful death when she’s perfectly fine with. Is said today is the first day that I felt a kick I already love her more than more than I can even express not that I didn’t love her before I loved her so much before but feeling her kick is just my baby was in there and it couldn’t bear the thought of having her this might be crazy cuz I know she’s not going to survive.

▶ 26:54 Anyways I share that because she brings up so many good th points you know she I think uh somebody had told her she had the baby had a disease and wasn’t going to make it or something like that I I don’t know but that’s what it sounds like and he’s just saying and they were trying to tell her convince her to abort the baby and she’s saying why you know she’s safe she’s. Warm and we don’t people in America they don’t they don’t realize these simple simple. Things it’s it’s awful what we’re doing and I bring that up because one of the laws is you know not. Murdering this mother even though she knows her baby’s going to die maybe she’s just saying no leave her alone I want her to stay she’s safe and to her that was an act of love.

▶ 27:54 And so when you remove these babies out of the womb you’re not. Loving that hurts. Amen I just you know I I saw that and I thought oh wow that’s a different she said that in a different way that was. Nice so we’ve got to stop. Harming he who loves not does not know. God and uh it’s important for us to follow all the scriptures honoring parents is also part. Of uh the ten commandments in Proverbs chapter 23 it says the father of a righteous child has great joy Proverbs 30:1 17 the eye that mocks a father. Um there’s going to be.

▶ 28:49 Consequences it’s parents uh when we when our our kid does a good does what’s right it brings us joy so how can you honor your parents even if your parents are honorable you do what’s right go out into the world be productive with your life do what’s right. Amen the remnant in American. History the quakers were a group that would not fight in war but they were early opponents of slavery and they were the first to formerly organ iz against it the first were these people that would not fight in war and here’s a house it says home of reverend John ranken and he’s part of the underground railroad if you never heard of the underground railroad it was uh they would go house to house and they would take slaves from place to place and get them uh to a place where they could be free whether it was a northern state or further uh levi coffin is president of the underground railroad these all were Christians who believed in Christ in the Bible in truth uh levi helped over 2,000 slaves escape freedom his home was a central.

▶ 30:10 Network in the 1830s the abolitionists in the north were 1 to 2% of the population you know just because you might be in the minority doesn’t mean you’re wrong just because everybody doesn’t agree with you doesn’t matter if 98% of the people are not on you know disagree if you’re that’s what the remnant that’s what the remnant does they stick with truth and if you want to be a rem remnant if you want to be a remnant according to the scriptures you keep the commandments you keep following it no matter what the world is. Doing amen and over time 20 years later it grew to 10 to 15% still not the majority but it started to grow abolitionist abolition they wanted to abolish slavery which was brought in the civil war as you can see it’s 1865 was a civil war but there’s Christians that laid the foundation that stood for right that were the remnant they behaved this way they cared about people amen don’t we want to beat people like that.

▶ 31:31 Not only did they not harm slaves but they worked they put their lives on the line to help them out of their condition Jeremiah chapter 23 verse three I myself will gather the remnant of my flock and they shall be fruitful and multiply if you want to be a remnant uh if you want to identify with this people and I encourage you to because this people people it says here they’re going to be what fruitful becoming a fruitful Christian Matthew 138 but the other the remnant fell under good ground and brought forth fruit some 100 some 60 some 30 now what happens when you plant something if you had a big garden or you had a big crop field and you planted it it grew up and you got no no fruit what would you do you’d be like man what did I do wrong.

▶ 32:28 I gotta rethink I gotta rethink what I just did here amen and we don’t want to be that way to God God plants us and then we don’t bear any fruit no our the goal the planting is so that we grow to a place where we bear. Fruit this seed is someone who under hears and understands and keeps the word of God are we willing to hear God’s word and we’re not going to be able to understand understand unless we put it into us until unless we uh engage our brains and say what is that saying we how you know we’ve got to hear what it says have knowledge of it and and also try to understand God’s. Word not just for knowledge not just for education but also so that we can keep it and do what it says very important Matthew 7:16 you will know them by their fruits do men gather grapes from thorn bushes it’s a it’s a statement you know you’re not going to get grapes you’re not going to get fruit from a thorn bush you know them by their fruit it’s not as we used to say it’s not the suit it’s the fruit it doesn’t matter what person projects on the outside or how they look it matters how they behave they’re fruit of their life.

▶ 33:58 So let’s not start telling let’s not telling any we don’t go around saying oh I’m a great Christian I’m a wonderful chrisan no let me see the fruit of Christ in your life amen. Amen Galatians 5:22 the fruit of the spirit is love joy peace patience gentleness goodness faithfulness meekness temperance against such there is no law there’s that law again. The law it’s. Important for us to follow God’s.

▶ 34:37 Law these fruits are the fulfillment of the law love joy peace patience kindness meekness if someone is not producing these. Fruits uh they need some work done in their life if you’re a thorn bush you got to be transformed and and Jesus is about that transformation if anyone is in Christ they are a new creation you may have been a thorn bush before but Jesus has made you a vine now amen and you got to get connected to the vine Jesus is the vine he’s the life are you connected with him or do you separate yourself from God are you connected to his word are you connected to his house are you connected to his behavior his character when somebody meets you are you you know do they con connect you with the world or are you connected with the vine Jesus Christ Romans chapter 9:27 though the number of Israelites be like the sand of the sea only the remnant will be saved you know we can have all these believers in Jesus Christ I believe I believe I believe but only the remnant shall be saved the people who are.

▶ 35:53 Responding as that song said I was made for what more I wasn’t made to be 10 in the great I’m not made to just sit here believe in God die and you know live a life of sin no you’re made to become a new creation to bear. Fruit in the days of Israel there were people that would serve other God gods even though they were supposed to be serving the God of Israel they would serve other gods they would um do all kinds of things and that’s why God brought judgment many times throughout history in Israel and what he’s saying is here the remnant will be saved it doesn’t matter if the Israelites become you know there’s a billion of them the remnant is are the people that’s going to bece the ones who do not bow their knee to bail Matthew 1:21 Jesus will save his people from their sins what does go what does God save us from God wants to save us deliver us get us away from sin he wants to save us from our sin if you’re living a life of uh addiction uh uh you know sexual immorality lying you can’t you can’t control your tongue he wants to

▶ 37:23 save you from that deliver you from that change you from that you have been set free from sin and become slaves to righteousness Romans 6:18 this is these are the goals Romans 59 since we now have been justified by his blood how much more shall we be saved from God’s wrath through him he wants to save us from the wrath that is coming Colossians 1:3 he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the son he. Loves he wants to save us from the dominion of darkness from your depression from all of your bad feelings from uh Satan trying to mess with your life and hurt you and harm you he wants to save you from that amen the example is there and and pharaoh trying to come and and and get the people the Israelites back he’s an example of Satan trying to get you back trying to not let you go God wants to deliver you.

▶ 38:27 From. That picture here shows uh the death angel and he’s coming on that night on the Passover to kill the firstborn but they were saved who put the blood on their doorpost have you put the blood of Jesus over your heart. In acts chapter. 22 Paul recounted his conversion to Jews in Jerusalem near the temple and when he recounted and shared his conversion and what happened how he was on the road to damasus and he saw a light and the light spoke to him and said Saul why are you persecuting me he goes on about this story and he sharing it and they get really upset and they say uh that it says all Jerusalem was in an uproar and it says that they said to Paul away with such a fellow from the earth for it is not fit that he should live because he’s sharing his testimony they could not stand it they hated it Acts 26 Paul recounted his conversion again before fesus and before agria and agria was almost converted and became a Christian fesus was saying to Paul you are crazy.

▶ 39:58 And so you have here different reactions to the same. Story amen this testimony that Paul had he was sharing and you may have a testim I’ve I’ve met God for real and you guys have heard that the story that I share meeting God for the first time it’s real you can meet God you can experience God he’s not just some guy in the sky far away you know something you got to believe in you can have a powerful will experience meeting and encounter with Jesus. Christ and Paul here has that testimony and he was sharing this testimony and people would get mad and people would get. Happy it doesn’t matter how people. Respond some people are going to reject it some people are going to accept it important thing is is do you have have you met Jesus Christ for.

▶ 41:00 Yourself and that’s what we encourage you to do this. Morning as uh is Miss Woods here somewhere. No so in summary. It says here I’m sorry in summary what we went over was that the remnant are people that keep God’s. Commands are we acting like the remnant or are we acting like the world the remnant follow his moral laws they don’t throw out his laws they keep them the remnant bear the fruits of the spirit are we bearing fruit do we be you know I’m I’m included in this you know my wife.

▶ 42:02 Knows we’ve got to remember that God is fighting harder for you than Satan is for your salvation and your growth are we putting in the effort it takes to grow in God uh somewhere in my notes I had written down that God has an armory as I think I shared already but he has an armory and it’s full of his weapons it’s full of things that can protect us it’s full of you know it’s just an amazing room full of things that we. Can uh be soldiers for Christ that we can find help that we need but we have to go into that room and we have to put those things on we have to utilize them it’s important for us we have to be humble enough to go and do that it’s important for you to understand what those things are and to exercise them in your life I encourage you to do that.

I’m going to play a song on the screen this time and we’re going to have an opportunity to come down to the altar this morning and I want to encourage you I want to invite you all of us this morning have room to grow we have room to. Change for joining us those in the room of course good to have everyone we’re going to be reading out of Matthew. 26:53 it says Jesus in red letter says do you think I cannot call on my father and he will at once put at my disposal more than 12 legions of angels it also says in Hebrews chapter 12 you have come to mount.

▶ 44:49 Zion you have come to mount Zion this morning and we want to thank you for joining us. A city the city of the living God where there is thousands upon thousands and a numerable company of angels in joyful assembly amen this morning the angels are with us to praise and lift up the name of Jesus Christ to honor our father God in heaven as we have been learning in the scriptures we’ve been learning about the church in antioch that were first called Christians and they it says minister to the Lord and I want to encourage you this morning to be a participant right over here we have this nine ways that you can express praise to God using your mouth you can speak you can sing you can shout using your posture you can stand amen can you believe worship standing is worshiping God gives honor bowing you can come and bow today we have some pads in the front for when we respond you can respond at any time you can run to the altar at any point.
